Poll: Holidays
Everything seems to be working fine; leave it as is.
No favorites--take out any holidays that have to do with religious beliefs.
Depending on school population, certain holidays should be added to the calendar.
Be fair--add all major religious holidays to the calendar.
Who cares--More holidays would be great!

October 29,2008 By M. Smith

A recent poll conducted by Mr. Mike Cullen’s D and H block Probability and Statistics class revealed that Woodland students support Senator Barack Obama over Senator John McCain.   The poll concluded that 60% of WRHS students support and would vote for Senator Obama if they could, compared to 34.5 percent favoring Senator McCain.

Of the students polled 42 percent affiliated themselves with the Democratic party and 33 percent with the Republican party. 25 percent of the students responded in support of an Independent party or other.

The margin of error in the study was plus or minus seven percent meaning each statistic could range seven points in either direction. This margin guarantees a Democratic victory at Woodland seeing as the minimal percentage for Senator Obama is over half the vote.

Because of the strong Democratic student base at Woodland the mock elections being held on Monday, November 3rd are expected to favor Obama over McCain.

With such a strong favoring of one candidate it would be assumed that WRHS student were well versed in the subject of politics. However, the poll found that only 55 percent of polled students were following the election with increasing numbers among each grade. The senior class had the highest percentage with 71.5 percent following the election compared to only 38 percent of freshman, 50 percent of sophomores, and 61 percent of juniors.

The poll included 142 randomly selected WRHS students by grade as to reflect all of the student body. The level of confidence in the results was set at 90 percent. It should also be noted that only 1.43 percent of all students polled are eligible to vote in the upcoming election.
