Water and Woodland Do Not Mix
Students at Woodland Regional School and Laurel Ledge Elementary School were dismissed early Monday morning due to a break in a Seymour water main, according to WFSB, Channel 3 in Hartford.
Dr. Arnold Frank, Woodland Principal, addressed the WRHS students over the PA system.
"This is the announcement you all have been waiting for," he started, hinting at the possibility of early dismissal. Students waited anxiously as he continued his public service announcement describing the water main break.
"Because we do not have any water in the building, we are forced to dismiss early today," Frank said, sparking an impromptu burst of celebration that echoed through the halls, both students and teachers alike.
The excitement for teachers was short-lived, however, as faculty was informed that they had to report to Long River Middle School to finish the school day. Frank noted the lack of the water pressure made the fire sprinkler system inoperable and that would be a cause for concern if faculty and staff were to remain in the building.
Some faculty members made the best of the situation. "I don't mind having the extra time to catch up on grading," noted Woodland English teacher, Paul Geary. "But I would have preferred to stay in my beloved Woodland. I don't mind living without water; I like living dangerously."
According to wfsb.com, the Aquarion Water Company was scheduled to shut off the water at 8:30 a.m. and most of Seymour and surrounding areas would be without water. Repairs should completed by Monday evening.
